1941 UCLA football pocket schedule

Mickey Mouse is a USC Trojan, Donald is an Oregon Duck and Goofy is a Washington Husky?
Walt Disney Productions had illustrated UCLA's football tickets as early as 1939 and continued into
the early 1940's.  Walt Disney characters become college mascots on this 1941 pocket schedule.

UCLA wasn't the only college with Disney ties.  Bert Anthony an artist for Disney, designed
Arizona State's Sun Devil "Sparky."  Anthony also designed the Indian logo that Stanford
Univerisity once used.

UCLA Coach Edwin Horrell led this 1941 team to a 5-5-1 record.

1929 Loyola University-New Orleans die cut decal.

Yes, Loyola once fielded a football team.  From 1922 until 1939 the Loyola Wolfpack
prowled the gridiron.  This 1929 team was led by Hall of Fame Coach, Clark Shaughnessy.
Just three years prior to this season, Loyola scored more points than any other team in the
nation and went undefeated with a record of 10-0.  This 1929 team didn't fair as well and
finished with 4 wins 5 losses and 2 ties.  One highlight of this season was the home opener
against St. Edward's.  It was the first night game in Loyola's $75,000 stadium which was
built in 1923.

During the 1920's and 1930's outstanding high school athletes in New Orleans had three
different options in which to play major college football.  Tulane, which was located next
to Loyola, would have been the first choice of most players.  If acceptance into Tulane
was denied, then Loyola would have been the next choice.  LSU was considered the last
choice for most athletes of the era.

This is one of those skeds that doesn't fall under the "pocket" sked label.  Below is a
1956 University of Pittsburgh schedule sponsored by Gulf Oil.  The most unique feature
of this sked is the rotating disc on the front.  There is a window on the front disc that
you can align with one of eight arrows on the bottom disc.  This allows you to see eight
different diagrammed football plays.

The back of the sked features a team roster.  This 1956 squad went 7-2-1 in the regular
season to earn a spot in the 1957 Gator Bowl.  Pitt lost to Georgia Tech 21-14  to finish
7-3-1 overall.
